Sustainability goals

The fashion industry is a major contributor to the environmental problems, but at Aaiko we believe we can make an impact together and create a sustainable world. At this moment, we're working on our sustainable business model.

In terms of quick wins, we already started with: separating the trash, recycling coffee pads, cutting down on paper use and print on FSC certified paper, usage of eco-friendly products and introducing a vegan month for lunch.

People

We believe in the power of co-creation. Through meaningful collaborations, we want to contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive society. We bring our attention to different foundations like Pink Ribbon & Project Alex. All of our collections have their own story. Female empowerment is in the heart of our organization. Created for women, created by women. That message is what formed the Suits You collection.

Planet

At Aaiko, we take responsibility in reducing our impact on the environment. Throughout the supply chain - from design to shop - our focus is to make every step of the process as sustainable as possible.

One of those steps is producing in Europe/Turkey instead of the Far East. This significantly reduces CO2 emissions.

Profit

The Aaiko team is passionate about working towards a more sustainable business. We look for new opportunities every day and how we can improve ourselves in what we already do.

One of the easiest things you can do to lower the environmental impact is to take good care of your clothes. To encourage our customers to take better care of our products, we have provided a few simple tips & tricks.

GARMENT CARE

One of the easiest things you can do to lower the environmental impact is to take good care of your clothes. To encourage our customers to take better care of our products, we have provided a few simple tips & tricks.

Remove stains

Take care of stained clothes as soon as possible. Try using the mixture of Marseilla soap and baking soda as it's an effective natural stain remover for different kind of stains. When not at home, a first-aid measure can be to rinse the stain with mineral water. Avoid the use of warm water as it can make the stain even more difficult to remove. Keep in mind that simply throwing your clothes in the washing machine rarely works.

Freshen up your garment

Worn clothes do not need to be washed right away. Instead, hang them out to dry. To freshen up, fill a bucket with 1/5 white vinegar and 4/5 lukewarm water and let the clothes soak in there for a few hours. The vinegar kills all bacteria. After soaking, rinse off the garments with water on room temperature and hang out to dry.

Only wash when needed

There is no need to machine-wash your clothes after every use. We tend to wash our clothes way too often. You only need to wash them if they get dirty. Washing often causes colour fading and aging of the garments. You could hang your clothes out in the air to freshen them up. On top of that, you will also be saving water. Win-win! The only clothes you do need to wash often are underwear and socks.

When you do use the washing machine, think about lowering your washing temperature to 40°C or even 30°C. This also saves energy as the washing water does not need to be heated. Also, switch to an organic washing detergent as an even better option for garments and environment.

Use a washing bag

Put all synthetic materials, such as polyester, in a washing bag to catch the microfibers. This way, they do not end up in the waterways and eventually in nature.

Microfibers damage ecosystems and eventually end up in the food chain and even on our plates. Using a laundry bag prevents this.

Skip the tumble dryer

This choice has the biggest positive impact on the environment, on your clothes and on your wallet. Instead of using the tumble dryer, dry your clothes in the air and opt for hangers to keep your clothes in an even better shape.

Steam instead of iron

When fabrics are creased of wrinkled, steam them. This is better for the fibers of the fabric than ironing. It is also a great way to freshen up your clothes after a few uses.

Repair your clothes

Repair your garments for a longer life. Some small things you can even do by yourself. With the spare button and some thread, you can easily sew the button onto your clothes. A hole in your shirt can easily be closed with a needle and some thread. You can even make your own designs on it and become a creative artist. Make it your own!

Shave pillings from your knitwear
Even the finest knit is not immune to pilling as this is a natural process caused by friction. Gently use a fabric shaver to erase any natural pilling that occurs on your knitwear items made from natural fibers. Your wardrobe treasures will look like new!
